Following a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund, Community Arts North West is seeking an experienced Music Director and a Lyric Writer/Librettist to work on our new Congolese Heritage project, Lisapo.
An experienced and dynamic Music Director with the ability to facilitate African/Congolese-heritage-inspired musical composition and arrangement is sought to provide artistic leadership for the 2nd phase of CAN’s Lisapo Congolese Heritage project. A Lyric Writer/Librettist is also sought to pull together the lyrical score.
Lisapo is focusing on the narrative oral histories and cultural traditions of the Congolese community which has been migrating to Britain since the late 1980s as a result of the destabilisation of the country and consequent civil war.
This is an ambitious and inspirational project that will bring together Congolese and other locally-based participants to create a new musical oratory for performance.
The project will be delivered from January-June 2014 and will include Congolese artists and participants as well as people from a wide range of other cultural heritages. Workshops will be delivered on Tue evenings (6-9.30pm) during February-June 2013, and on some weekends. The project will culminate in a performance to celebrate Congolese culture and heritage on 21 Jun 2014, at a mainstream cultural venue in Manchester.
