The workshop will look at the poetry of the poet Simon Fletcher. Using his words to inspire us to write or feel. The sessions are a relaxed way to share poetry, ideas and creativity. No writing or poetry experience necessary.
8pm -10pm poetry performance/reading with open mic
Guest poet |Basir Sultan Kazmi This writer is from Pakistan and lives in Manchester. A poet, teacher, playwright and director, he won a North West Playwrights Workshops Award. His plays have appeared at such venues as Liverpool’s Unity Theatre, Manchester’s Green Room and Contact Theatre. His play, The Chess Board, introduced by Simon Fletcher, was published by Pennine Pens. The ghazal ‘Taking Time’ was selected by the Poems for the Waiting Room project and widely displayed in UK hospitals and clinics. Basir has two poetry collections and his work appears in a number of anthologies. He is read widely in Britain, Pakistan, India, USA, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, France, Germany and Spain, including for the British Council and the BBC. He has just been been awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2013, for Services to Literature.
Open mic (This is an opportunity to share poems, bring your own poems or poems by Simon Fletcher to read. Musicians also very welcome to perform)
