Anwen Lewis

Anwen Lewis began her musical training on the piano, progressing to the cello, vocal studies then to composition. She studied composition with Dr Anthony Gilbert at the Royal Northern College of Music. Upon graduating, she became a member of staff working in the composition department, opera theatre and launched the RNCM's Education Projects facility in 1999.

She also works as an Animateur gaining a Prince’s Youth Business Trust grant to set up a music animateur service. ‘almas’ has designed and developed a variety of projects for venues and organisations around the country, focusing on the introduction of composition as a form of expression and communication including the Excel and Organworks programmes.

Anwen has been commissioned by the Park Lane Group, the British Association of Bands and Wind Ensembles, the RNCM Brass Department, Live Music Now!, the Royal College of Organists, Bridgewater Hall Education Trust and various solo artists.

Recent works include Exalt Aphonoso (aponniad) sonata for alto sax and piano, the forth in the ‘aponniad’ series received its premiere in May 2003. Making Waves, a concerto for solo marimba and percussion designed in a ‘multi-performance-format’ that accommodates a variety of live performance and workshop possibilities. Remembering AGe celebrates the 70th birthday of Dr Anthony Gilbert and Pageant of the Innocents for unaccompanied choirs receives its first performances in December 2004.
