Introducing the latest event for poetry and spoken word for Hebden Bridge. We are really lucky to have a very special guest for our first event.
Introducing Char March –
If you’ve never thought poetry is your bag, and the thought of going to a poetry performance fills you with horror… think again! Char March’s poetry performances are a rip-roaring mix of stand-up and emotional roller-coaster – she’ll have you crying with laughter and roaring with tears.
Char March is a local, multi-award-winning poet, playwright and fiction writer. Her latest poetry collections are ‘The Thousand Natural Shocks’ and ‘The Cloud Appreciation Society’s Day Out’ both of which have lots of poems in celebrating – and despairing of – our local weather! She is currently writer-in-residence for the NHS in the North West, and she’s also been writer-in-residence for: the huge Pennine Watershed Initiative; Leeds Hospitals Trust; Ty Newydd (the National Writing Centre in Wales); and Hull University Business School. Winston Plowes asked Char to write a poem for his Rochdale Canal Poetry Trail, so ‘Mrs Toad The Estate Agent’ came into being – a fag-butt-eating toad who lives in the canal, fights with pike, and teases the ducks. Char takes Mrs T tasty tit-bits to eat every day, and delights in her obscene gestures.
