Greetings STUNNING Members
2013 is the year that STUN can officially celebrate the hard work that Baroness Lola Young started 8 years ago. We have been given the go ahead from the Arts Council to refurbish the Hub Office and the Studio at Z-Arts and paid the rent and bills for 10 years. That’s over £800,000.00 so that you can get access to space to make the work YOU want to make!
In 2005, Arts Council England ear-marked £5 million to Sustained Theatre National for spaces around the country for BAME artists. Z-Arts applied to Sustained Theatre National Artists Team (STNAT) through our National Spaces Group to be considered as a potential partner for the North West and was successful. We then hired Maggie Saxon who worked with both STUN and Z-Arts to put in an application via the ACE Renew Capital Programme . We have been successful.
What this means for you?
We will, later in the year, once we have completed the refurbishment, be offering desks to rent in the HUB office and a digital space for artists to develop their skills, r ‘n’ d and even do mini showcases and sharings in the 60 seat studio.
We have kept our promise, and worked tirelessly to get to this stage, our key goals
· To act as a network linking BAME theatre practitioners across the North West
· To lobby for positive change at a regional and national level
· To create opportunities for BAME theatre practitioners to present their work at a regional, national and international level
There has been some significant progress in the last 12 months and we are sorry if we haven’t been able to give you as much information as we would have liked along the way but when you see what we’re achieving, we hope ypou wil forgive us! But from now on the Newsletter will come out on a monthly basis.
YOU are the most important part of the Process going forward!
