Z-arts Digital Masterclass and LIVE STREAM: Bringing theatre to life with technology

/ /

Tuesday 18 September     |      10am – 6.30pm

How do we use digital platforms to create amazing theatrical experiences for young people and children? How do we incorporate digital technology into helping us tell stories and ignite imaginations?

Z-arts will host a digital masterclass, including sessions from three of the most inspiring companies making the most of digital technology in theatre, that will explore the incredible possibilities digital technology can bring to theatre and storytelling, and inspire making the best use out of digital technology in theatre.

Leading the key digital workshops are:

Tassos Stevens, Director of Coney, who will be discussing what the word ‘digital’ means and how, in actuality, it’s about people and how we connect with each other over different times and places. Looking at the technology most frequently used and why, and what models work best, this is an interactive session that will really get you thinking about new and exciting ways to communicate with others. There will be a chance to play some games to see how this works practically for customers and audiences.

Peter Higgin, Director of Enrichment & Punchdrunk Village at Punchdrunk, will be sharing insights into Punchdrunk’s approach to implementing digital technologies into the company’s ground-breaking practice. Peter will be talking through the nature of The Oracles project, a cross-platform storytelling project which won Columbia University’s Digital Dozen Break Through Award, digging deeper into the mechanics of the project and delving into the relationship between technology and live performance. The session will finish with a creative workshop that will allow participants to dream up their own ideas.

Ilya Van Autreve, Medialab Co-Ordinator and Assistant Director at KOPERGIETERY, Belgium, will be delivering an insight on how the Medialab of KOPERGIETERY works, exploring more about what the vision of KOPERGIETERY is in performing arts for young people and more precisely in relation to technology and media arts. This session involves a workshop with technologies that the Medialab are researching with right now (like livestreaming) or what they want to be working with in the near future (like Virtual Reality).
This masterclass is an opportunity to share your ideas and experiences, learn from others, and be inspired into revolutionising theatre and creative experiences.

The masterclass is being run by Z-arts ahead of its Big Imagination Festival in October 2019, which will focus on artistic work that uses digital content for young people. Z-arts and Big Imaginations are looking for new work to support and/or programme as part of this exciting festival.
